An Ode To Mothers

As mothers I don’t think we realize not just how beautiful, but how POWERFUL our bodies are. So below, I wrote an ode to remind us of that reality. Before you read it, I want you to know that YOU are doing the very best that you can. It doesn’t matter if you feel exhausted at the beginning of the day (your body was busy producing milk overnight or your subconscious might have been hard at work organizing everyone’s schedule for the next day or a million other possibilities). You were given the power to nurture, the power to create, the power to cure with a touch and the power to bear what others are not able. May you no longer seek perfection; it is in your DNA and you are already perfect by design. So as you read my declaration of your strength below, I want you to know that I see you.

AN ODE TO MOTHERS

Woman, you are a thing of wonder.

That stretchmark tapestry is not just a sign of your femininity, it is a decoration of your service. The service of blooming beyond the parameters of society; of the ability to carry and bring forth life into this world.

The tears you cry are not just signs of your vulnerability, they are rivers of courage. Your vulnerability epitomizes your artistry of making connections; of drawing people in without concealing your frayed edges. Your courage lets others know that YOU too need a helping hand.

Your kindness is not a source of weakness, it sits at the core of your power.

Your ability to have so little yet change so much.. Woman, it leaves me in awe.

You, my darling, are a Phoenix. Rising up from the ashes of despair.

You build up an empire rooted in humility.

So bask. Bask in your strength, in your vulnerability, and in your femininity powered by your strength.  Bask so others may follow; so that others may give themselves the permission to embrace all that they are.
